CountryMetric is an independent reference site for country statistics and head-to-head country comparison. Compare countries on GDP, income, population and development — head to head, with World Bank data.

What we do

We turn free, openly-licensed World Bank Open Data into clear, answer-first pages: a profile for every country, head-to-head comparisons like USA vs China, and rankings of the richest, most populous and fastest-growing nations. Every figure is attributed to its source and dated, and nothing is invented — where the World Bank reports no value, we show a dash rather than guess.

Students, journalists, travellers, investors and the simply curious — anyone who wants to know how two countries stack up on GDP, income, population or development without wading through spreadsheets.

How we work

Pages are generated from a committed snapshot of the World Bank Indicators API and rebuilt as a static site, so they load instantly and show their sources. See our methodology for the exact indicators, how the snapshot is built, and known limitations (notably that GDP is nominal and the reference year varies by country).
